British folk art money box circa 1900

A wonderful boxwood scratch-built money box, designed for the saver to place an old penny on the soldier’s head, whereby he would swing backwards with the weight and deposit the coin through the slot. I’m not sure just how accurate this was in practice, but its charm outweighs its effectiveness.
