A wonderful mid 19th C naïve portrait of twins, William Thomas and Ann Sherred, both dressed in child’s frocks, as was the fashion. To the back of the painting is inscribed a small family history and history of the ownership of the painting (see photo). It identifies both as having been born on 5th April 1848, with the painting passing to a Lillian Beatrice Newell (nee Sherred) upon William’s widows death in 1928 (William having died in September 1900 in Ramsgate).
