18th English century beer coaster on castors

A unique survivor of eighteenth century tavern life. Illustrated on page 408 of “Oak furniture, the British Tradition” by Victor Chinnery. Mounted on later nineteenth century castors (replacing wooden originals), the beer coaster would be wheeled along the tavern or dining table, delivering ale from drinker to drinker. Retains its original perforated drip-tray.
