A wonderful and very rare set of six Merry Man delft dishes. Produced in the same pottery in London, displaying the same design; four dated 1726, one 1727 and one 1741. Ex Garry Atkins
Merry Man dishes were numbered 1 to 6, with each bearing a line from the following verse:
What is a Merry Man
Let him do what he can
To entertain his guests
With wine and merry jests
But if his wife do frown
All merryment [sic] goes down
